Early Electronic Music Memories
This is a series of YouTube playlist batches that often contain entries
of electronic music that is not only capped to a specific year, but
also containing unmixed music that had criteria that didn't net a veto.
My house, my rules, so this is what I consider veto material:
- It's used in television advertisements, promotions, or shows.
- It was written for television advertisements or promotions.
- It's played on the radio (such as big room, future house), or has
net culture niches (such as vaporwave, nightcore), or was geared
towards commercial mainstage/radio hype (such as brostep, tropical
house, most 'modern' (post-2010) EDM).
- It's horribly offensive to the ears (noisecore, scream, bass
boosted musics, propogandism)
- It's under 2m30s or has no actual music value (random noise
abstractions)
- I can't verify the year of the track's release by any means
- The track counts as a qualifier, but the remix is too modern
(post-2010)
- Example of this context: yes, I know Union Jack's "Two Full
Moons And a Trout" is 1994. The Luke Chable remix is 2006, so I
consider the track 2006.
- Energy 52's Cafe del Mar is 1992, but the Three 'n' One remix
is 1998, so I consider the track 1998.
The batch project is still ongoing. If I see old electronic music
suggested to me, chances are that if I vibe with it, I'll categorise it.
How did this even start?
This was started courtesy of two things I did. One was in the former
plug.dj (which no longer exists), called Still Remember. It was a
celebration of electronic music that was produced and released on and
before 2000. The other was in Dubtrack (now QueUp), called the Early
Electronic Music Monthly; this was the start of the batch collection,
with tidbits from Still Remember making its way into the batches. Still
Remember lasted for almost four years; EEMM was not so much. So in
rememberance of using EEMM for the monthly, I had decided to rename it
Early Electronic Music Memories, so I could continue hoarding what I
saw on YouTube.
Also, did you know that finding proper tracks on YouTube is shite? I
tried to find a specific track off Le Petit Prince, the track "Cosmos"
by Canyon. You know what I was suggested? Yep.. that track from Final
Fantasy VII. So I had to hyphenate it to make it find what I was
looking for. And sometimes, you just won't get what you're
looking for, because 1) YouTube's algorithm is ass, and 2) someone
didn't put it up yet -- and most likely, it's #1 that will nail you.
Even now, today.
I gladly have most of the Early Electronic Music Memories playlists
available from my YouTube channel, which you can find by selecting
Interesting Output on that bar on the left. In case that disappeared
for some bizarre reason, you can go here.
